Bail application of three PFI members (alleged) rejected by Mathura Court

Bail application of three alleged PFI members who were held on their way to Hathras was rejected by Mathura court on Friday. On their way to Hathras, Siddique Kanan a Kerala based journalist was with them.

The bail plea was rejected by Additional District and Sessions Judge Mayur Jain.  The alleged PFI members Mohammad Aalam, Atiq-ur-Rahman and Masood Ahmad had filed the bail applications. The charges faced by them include Sedition (Section 124A) of IPC, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)’s Sections 17 and 18, deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings (Section 295 of IPC), Section 153A IPC, Sections 65, 72 and 75 of the IT Act.

The accused had contended that they were social activists and wanted to go and meet the aggrieved family of the murder and alleged gangrape victim, console them and support them in the tough times.  A habeas corpus writ petition is filed in the High Court of Allahabad for setting the three accused free.

Their bail applications were rejected by the lower court of Mathura, the accused then moved to the Sessions Court.

Three separate orders were delivered by the Court but the ground for rejection was the same i.e. Section 43D(5) of UAPA, 1967.
