The Armed Forces Tribunal took a decision and directed the Government to hike salaries of the Major-General rank officers; these officers have been getting lesser pay than their juniors.
Air Vice-Marshal P Subhash Babu went to the tribunal through Ankur Chibber as the counsel with the contention that after the sixth pay commission’s implementation, the Major-General rank officers get paid lesser than the senior Colonels and Brigadiers. The latter receive the military service pay and the former don’t.
Chibber also added that post the implementation of 6th pay commission, the salary of two general stars became less than group captains, colonel’s time scale including the junior officers. Further, that the decision of the Armed Forces Tribunal will help addressing the grievance of the two-star officers.
A statutory complaint was filed by the Air Vice Marshal which was rejected by the Ministry of Defence. The tribunal noted that by rejecting the complaint without even looking at the relevant aspects, the ministry took an improper decision.
The Tribunal directed to raise the pay of the applicant with retrospective effect and to bring it at an equal level with his immediate juniors and grant all arrears of pay with retrospective effect.
