The Hon’ble Madras High Court earlier today on 07th July 2021, Wednesday granted that conditional bail to the former AIADMK Minister M. Manikandan in the case of the rape.
The former Hon’ble minister was charged with the offence of rape on the false pretext of marriage. He had been arrested on the date 26th June 2021 and from then was there under judicial custody.
Hon’ble Justice M. Nirmal Kumar had extended the conditional bail to the minister and observing that there lies a clear distinction between rape and consensual sex.
In case If we look at the background of the case. The complainant, in this case, is a Malaysian Citizen who was employed in the Malaysian Tourism Department and corporation. On 3rd May 2017, during work, she met the accused as the accused showed his interest in starting a business in Malaysia. Further, they both began a relationship and thus started living together.
During their period of cohabitation that lasted for almost 5 years, the complainant alleged that the accused was physically harassing her. Further, she even mentioned that during her relation she was even forced to go through abortion several times.
