Retired The Punjab & Haryana High Court’s Justice Somnath Aggarwal has been tasked with conducting an investigation into the events that led to the use of force against farmers protesting on August 28, 2021, at the Bastara Toll Plaza in Karnal.

The decision was made following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, which was chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The panel, led by Justice Aggarwal, will look into the alleged role of Karnal Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ayush Sinha and determine who else was involved in the incident.

The commission’s report must be submitted to the state government within a month.

“The Commission of Inquiry will look into the events leading up to and including the police action in Karnal on August 28, 2021, as well as the use of force against protesters.

The Commission will also determine who is responsible for the situation, as well as the involvement of Sh. Ayush Sinha, Karnal Sub Divisional Magistrate, in the police action on August 28, 2021 “, according to a news release issued after the Cabinet meeting.
