The Karnataka High Court, today, via an interim direction, indicated the State Government to evolve a mechanism to vaccinate people against Covid-19 with disabilities on a priority basis. The following orders passed by the Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Suraj Govindaraj.
- The District Disability Officer, per the order of the State, could receive vaccination requests from the disabled people via SMS, email or WhatsApp.
- Also, the State must make significant arrangements for disabled people to receive the vaccine and avoid waiting in queues at such facilities.
- Disabled people are unable to move and make it to the vaccination facility, the State must consider providing them with a door-step vaccination service.
- A scheme should be designed to implement these directions by the State.
The matter concerning the vaccination of disabled people heard on a priority basis by the Court. With this, the Court clarified that the caregivers of these disabled people must receive the vaccine on a priority basis. Lastly, the steps taken to this effect could reflect at the hearing scheduled on May 12, 2021.
