A petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court contesting the appointment of Zonal Director of NCB Mr Sameer Wankhede through Schedule Caste with the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) [Ashok Mahadev Kamble (petitioner) v. Union of India].
The petitioner alleged that Wankhede did not reveal his real caste and religion. In this regard, Kamble argued that Wankhede’s father, Dawood @ Dhyandev Kamble, relied on various documents to support his claim that the Wankhede was a Muslim, born to Dawood Kachru Wankhede and Zaheda Bano.
He said that a statement was made in 1993 to change the name of Dhyandev Wankhede, but there was no change in religion from Wankhede based on to Dhyandev Wankhede in the birth certificate and the same was done for Sameer’s plea plus the fact that Wankhede had married a doctor Shabana. One cannot submissively marry a person if he is not a Muslim. It was further submitted that the petitioner had filed a written complaint with the caste scrutiny committee to take legal action against Wankhede. The present petition was filed after the dissatisfaction from the UPSC for not reviewing the assertion of Wankhede caste; to revoke, to cancel Wankhede’s appointment by dismissing him from the public service after examining his caste and religion, with further instructions to take criminal action against Wankhede for being misled and providing false information.
