PIL in SC Seeks the use of PM-CARES fund for the Installation of Oxygen Generators in District Hospitals

The Hon’ble Supreme Court Advocate Viplav Sharma has filed the Public Interest Litigation (hereinafter referred to as “PIL”) before the Hon’ble apex court and sought the order to direct the central government authorities to utilize the PM-CARES fund for the immediate procurement of Covid-19 vaccines and for the installation of oxygen generators and plants in district Covid treatment hospital (approx. 738 in number) where the treatment available at no cost to common people.

The petitioner has also challenged the three months’ timeline of the government notification which exempts the import duty of certain medical equipment including oxygen concentrators. He urged the court to extend the period of same since it is too short from the standpoint of logistics involved in importing this equipment. 

The petitioner further urged the court to direct the Members of Legislative Assembly and Members of Parliament to spend their MLA/MP funds to serve the public of their respective constituencies in a disciplined manner and with full transparency.

The plea which is being listed for hearing in the next week has also sought directions from the Hon’ble court to the State governments to ensure the setting up of electric and all other kinds of crematoriums in their respective states.
