The Supreme Court referred the accused (Abdul Nasser) of the 2008 Bengaluru Blasts as a ‘dangerous man’. A plea filed by Maudani heard by a bench comprising of CJI SA Bobde, Justices AS Bopanna, and V Ramasubramanian. The appeal filed by Maudani asked to permit him to travel to Kerala, his hometown from Bengaluru, and reside there till the trial comes to an end.
The reason cited by Maudani for seeking such relief was that the matter faced with undue delay, and it’s taken more than six years to close it. Moreover, bail granted to Maudani by the Supreme Court in July 2014 due to his health complications. To this, the court viewed that Maudani does not get to leave Bengaluru.
Well, looking at the recent plea filed by Maudani, it states that the bail condition is relaxed since the agreement, based on which the bail condition survived, has run out. Further, the plea contended that the matter protracted due to the sluggish attitude of the Karnataka Government. It also stated that the trial court proceedings are moving at “a snail’s pace”. And this is because the witnesses recalled and re-examined, the special public prosecutor transferred thrice and lastly, due to the Covid-19 outbreak. With this, as per Section 313 of the CrPC, recording of a statement was on its way.
