Delhi High Court orders for expeditious processing of Ration Card applications and demands status report on pending applications

Man alleged to have ‘Khalistani Links’ granted default bail by Delhi HC

On October 19, 2020 Delhi High Court has passed an order in the writ petition directing the State of NCT of Delhi to expeditious processing of pending Ration Card applications of the petitioners.

Petitioner had approached the court relying on RTI response and information available on the website of  National Food Security Portal[i] submitting that, the approved limit of Delhi under National Food Security Act,2013 is 72,77,995 out of which  72,22,236 applicants have been approved. It was submitted that there is a large pendency of such applications like of petitioner in this case is concerned.

Justice Navin Chawla also ordered the filing of status report regarding pendency of application for issuance of Ration Card along with date of filing of the same within a period of 4 weeks before the Court. Court passed this order for obtaining subsidiary food article.

The matter is listed to be heard on November 26, 2020.

Appearing on Advance Notice, the Counsel for Respondent that the Petitioner Ms. Shabnam was placed at serial no.4510, while Petitioner Ms. Kanta at serial no.4550 in the waiting list.

The Petitioners were represented by Adv.T.S Dahiya and Adv. Ms Ankita Bhadouriya.
The Respondents were represented by ASC Anuj Aggarwal and Adv. Ayushi Bansal.
