On 13th August 2021, due to the ongoing pandemic situation, the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court decided to extend the life of interim orders passed by the High Court as well as subordinate courts and tribunals in the State of West Bengal and the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands till September 15, 2021.
The order was passed to extend the protection of people who are unable to seek justice as a result of the current COVID-19 scenario.
The order was given in response to a Suo Motu petition submitted by the Courts and signed by acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justices IP Mukerji, Justice Harish Tandon, Justice Soumen Sen, and Justice Subrata Talukdar.
“In light of the Government of West Bengal’s extension of restrictions relating to the Covid-19 pandemic until August 30, 2021, we extend the interim orders passed in this Writ Petition until September 15, 2021” the order stated.
According to the Court, the order had to be published on the High Court’s website and notified to lower courts and tribunals. The order was sent to the Advocate General, the Additional Solicitor General, the Presidents, and Secretaries of the three wings of the Bar, as well as lawyers, litigants, and other interested parties.
