The Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana, a bench led by Judge Madan Lokur of the Supreme Court of the Retired, heard a plea on Wednesday contesting the West Bengal government’s decision to establish a dual Commission of Investigation headed by the Government of India.
On the matter related to Pegasus Snoopgate, the Supreme Court is expected to issue a complete order next week.
The Mamta Banerjee government’s decision was challenged by the Global Village Foundation Public Charitable Trust (the petitioner) to investigate Pegasus through a judicial panel.
Senior Advocate Harish Salve, representing the petitioner-trust, said the committee of inquiry should hold off on conducting its investigation until the Supreme Court hears the case next week.
Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a senior advocate representing the West Bengal government, was also in opposition to the same.
The Court, however, said that it will be passing a comprehensive order next week and if the Lokur commission proceeds in the meantime, then the Supreme Court will be forced to pass orders today.
On the other hand, the Supreme Court stated that by next week the court will pass the order and if in the meantime, the Lokur commission moves on, it will be forced to issue directives today.
The Court then issued a notice and filed it alongside other petitions related to the Pegasus incident. The case will be heard the following week.
