Delhi Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 on the Delhi Police post the observation of the delay that was caused in moving a particular application with regards to the segregation of complaints in a specific riots case that was responsible for having caused undue harassment of the supposedly accused persons, two out of whom are currently in judicial custody.
After observation of the fact that repeated directions in matters of the riot’s cases have continually been ignored by the Senior police officials, Arun Kumar Garg who is the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate had directed the Police Commissioner to prepare a detailed report with regards to the steps taken by him in order to ensure that proper investigation of riots cases and their respective trials are carried out within a period of 7 days.
In accordance with this, the Court had directed the Secretary of Union of India to order an inquiry in order to decide the responsibility for the case of imposition of the costs and the respective deductions of the cost in question from the salary of the officer responsible for this. The matter has now been decided to be continued on 20th November.
