After careful verification of their identity, the court ordered the issuing of the original passports to the respective applicants or their lawyers in return for proper acknowledgment, in accordance with the rules.
The Saket Court Complex, New Delhi, ordered the issuance of the original passports of 31 members of the International Tablighi Jamaat acquitted later 20 December 2020, for whom the Supreme Court ordered the government to facilitate their return on 13 January.
The case was brought by 31 Foreign Tablighi Jamaat Members who were acquitted by this Court while attending the Tablighi Jamaat event in Nizamuddin Markaz, Delhi, facing trial under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, Sections 270 and 271 under the Indian Penal Code, Disease Act, Disaster Management act and several other provisions for allegedly breaching guidelines related to the COVID-19.
“Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Arun Kumar Garg observed, “considering that the accused has already been convicted by this court vide judgment of 15.12.2020, the State has not lodged any appeal/revision against this court’s judgment of 15.12.2020 to date.
