Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister arrested by the UP police in Lakhimpur Kheri Violence case

Following the Supreme Court’s sharp remarks about the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence case, Ashish Misra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra ‘Teni, has been arrested by the UP Police tonight around 11 PM for allegedly running his car over on some of the protesting farmers and killing 4 of them in Lakhimpur Kheri last Sunday. Earlier today, he had appeared before the crime branch office in Lakhimpur Kheri following a notice which the police had issued and pasted outside his house asking him to appear before it.

Ajay Misra has also been mentioned in the FIR for Murder, Criminal Conspiracy in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence case, in which a total of 8 people died, four of whom were mowed down by a vehicle which was allegedly Misra was driving. Misra had provided videos and affidavits of 10 people to claim that he was not inside the car at the time of the incident.

The FIR registered against him states that the whole incident was “preplanned” by the BJP Minister and his son”, who committed the act in a display of hooliganism. The FIR also mentions 15-20 people who are unnamed as accused. It is also mentions that the vehicle which was driven by BJP MP’s son, Ashish overturned on the road side which caused injuries to several other people present on the side of the road after which misra opened fire and then escaped from his car, and hid in the nearby sugarcane field.

The FIR also avers that a video was already viral in the social media, wherein BJP Minister was allegedly seen warning protesters opposing the centre’s three farm laws. In the video, he had asked the protesters to mend their ways; however, despite this too the Central Government didn’t act against the BJP Minister.
The Supreme Court on Friday recorded its discontent with the investigation done by the Uttar Pradesh Police regarding the Lakhimpur Kheri violence and asked why the accused still hasn’t been arrested. CJI asked the officials to treat the accused in the same way as others and said that instead of summoning, he should have been arrested as the crime committed by him is very brutal.
