The Delhi High Court ruled that the benefits that are there under Chief Minister’s Advocates Welfare Scheme extend to all those advocates who had got themself registered under the Bar Council of Delhi, and are residing in the National Capital Region.
The Bench of Justice Prathiba Singh observed that the CM’s Advocate Welfare Scheme had a laudable objective, but the condition contained in it that is it would apply only to Delhi Residents with Voter ID cards is discriminatory is thus arbitrary.
The court was dealing with the petition that sought directions to extend the benefit of the Welfare Scheme to all those who are enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi, whether their names are appearing on the voter’s list of the national capital or not.
The Court has also opined that a substantial number of advocates who all primarily practice in Delhi come from or live in the NCR Region.
