“Ensure the maximum possible testing of children in orphanages and the health of jail inmates”: Tripura HC

The Hon’ble Tripura High Court on Monday (17th May 2021) directed the State administration to ensure the maximum possible testing of the young children who are housed in the orphanages while dealing with Public Interest Litigation (hereinafter referred to as “PIL”) which concerns arrangements and preparedness of the State government regarding the emerging Covid related situation.

The division bench comprising of Hon’ble Chief Justice Akil Kureshi and Hon’ble Justice S. Talapatra further observed that the State Government which has restricted the movement of a citizen, of course by authority of law, has the onus to ensure that the health of jail inmates is not jeopardized on account of being kept confined.

Additionally, the Hon’ble Court advised the State government to take into their account all the directives and observations of the Supreme Court specially constituted committee by its order dated 23rd March 2020.

Lastly, the Hon’ble Court asked the State administration to think of devising a system by which the availability of hospital beds with or without oxygen supply and ventilators is constantly made available in the public domain. Thus, an efficient and functional helpline is produced which provides all necessary information and support to the relatives of the patients who are in need.
