Earlier today on 10th June 2021, Thursday the Bar Council of India (hereinafter referred to as “BCI”) via vide notification mandated all the Law Schools and Universities to conduct end-term examinations and the respective Universities and Legal Education Boards are free to decide on the mode of examination to be conducted.
The decision comes after the report was submitted by a High-Level Committee, appointed by the BCI to consider the issue of examinations for LLB students amid the raging covid-19 pandemic.
The High Committee, headed by Hon’ble Justice Govind Mathur, Former Chief Justice of Hon’ble Allahabad High Court, has also stated that the universities or Legal Education Centers shall examine their dispensation taking account of the available resources and the pandemic situation in the region. Further, the committee recommended ensuring that a sufficient time gap exists between the regular and backlog examinations.
After receiving a myriad of letters from students and colleges, the BCI constituted a High-Level Committee of Expert to consider the issue in detail, so that the Council could take a final decision in the matter. After deliberate discussions on the report, the Council accepted it unanimously.
