Build up CCTV, the virtual presence of criminals in lower court: Plea in SC

After the recent incident of a gangster being shot dead in court, a lawyer has filed a petition in SC seeking some remedies and necessary measures for the protection of judicial officers, advocates, and legal fraternity.

An intervention application has been filed by Advocate Vishal Sharma regarding the pending suo moto plea. The main concern of plea is the safety of the legal fraternity that proceeded with the Dhanbad judge murder case.

Previously the Dhanbad Judge murder brought the need for suo motu matter by SC and recently the yesterday Rohini courtroom shootout increased the need for same.

The pleader also cited some incidents from across the nation contending that such incidents are not new in the lower judiciary. He cited incidents from Hisar, Bijnor, Barwani, Amritsar.

“Such incidents are not only a threat to our Judicial officers, lawyers, and people present in the court premises but it is also a threat to our justice system. A court is a place where people are in the shelter of law but they fall victim in courts of unlawful Activities,” the plea said.

He prayed that such criminals/gangsters should be produced virtually rather than physically and also to implement the CCTV facilities in courts.

The petition also includes vacating the courtroom as much as is possible, to ensure that every individual is looked upon. The mob accompanying the gangster must not overcrowd the court premises.

The Supreme Court is likely to take up the plea of suo moto in cases where the security of the judges is harmed.
