CJI questions farmers safety during protest

CJI Bobde defends the controversial committee formed by the SC

A three-bench headed by CJI S A Bobde in the Supreme Court has recently questioned the safety of the protesting farmers in Delhi. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the CJI wants the central government to inform its plans for protestors to the Court. Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta was the representative of the Central government in the Court. The CJI was also seen worried that the present situation would be similar to what happened in the Tablighi Jamaat incident. Mr. Mehta assured the bench the details will be submitted and that it will keep in mind the safety of the protestors. The Court also heard a plea filed by Supriya Pandita. The plea questioned the role of the Central government and Police, in risking so many lives by allowing such a religious gathering. The perpetrator, Nizamuddin Markaz chief Maulana Saad, was not even arrested by the Delhi Police. The petition also stated that it was it is the responsibility of all religious leaders to ensure the safety of the people and follow guidelines during any religious gathering. Due to no proper care taken,  there was a surge in COVID cases.
