With the change in the State’s leadership, Senior Advocate Atul Nanda resigned and Senior Advocate Deepinder Singh Patwalia was appointed as the new Advocate General of Punjab.
Senior Advocate Deepinder Singh Patwalia was appointed as the Advocate General of Punjab soon after the resignation of Senior Advocate Atul Nanda.
Patwalia, son of former Supreme Court Judge Justice Kuldip Singh, who practised mainly in constitutional, service, and criminal matters, was designated Senior Advocate in 2014. He is also the younger brother of Supreme Court advocate PS Patwalia who in 2006 resigned as Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge to practice in the Supreme Court.
This decision has grabbed the attention of politicians as Patalia is considered close to Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. He also appeared for the former Indian Police Service Officer Mohommad Mustafa, where he challenged the appointment of Dinkar Gupta as the State’s Police Chief after the suspension of Mhd. Mustafa.
Recently the former CM of Punjab Amarinder Singh resigned leading to a political overturn in the State.
