The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed the Director-General, Prison and Correctional Services (Madhya Pradesh) to produce a report related to arrangements made to keep the male and female prisoners as well as under trials and convicted prisoners in separate jails.
A bench of Justice Rajeev Kumar Shrivastava issued an order regarding the report while dealing with a bail plea filed in connection with an offense registered under Section 34(2) of the M.P. Excise Act.
It has been alleged that applicants Roma Kanjar and Hemlata Kanjar possess 600 bulk litres of liquor, however, they have denied the said allegations.
The applicants prayed for bail contending that they are ladies and are in custody since 27/7/2021 and investigation and trial will take their own time.
The bail application was thus allowed directing the applicants to furnish a personal bond of Rs.1,00,000/- each to be released on bail.
However, before settling the case, the court requested a report on the detention status from the Director-General, Prison and Correctional Services (M.P.) regarding arrangements made to keep male and female prisoners, as well as the trial and detention of convicted persons in separate prisons.
The state has been thus asked to submit said report to the Chief of Staff of this Court within one month, responsible for submitting the report administratively.
The Court also directed to send the copy of the order to the trial Court concerned as well as State counsel for necessary compliance. The registry has been requested to notify the order to the Director-General, Prison and Correctional Services (M.P.) for compliance.
