The Bombay High Court on Wednesday observed that the Mumbai Police seemed to have to excavate no evidence against Republic TV in the Television Rating Points (TRP Scam) case in spite of investigating the matter for over three months. A Bench of Justices SS Shinde and Manish Pitale was hearing the appeal filed by ARG Outlier Media, the holding company of Republic TV channels demanding the criminal proceedings commenced against its channel and the employees in the TRP Scam. Justice Manish Pitale also noted that the solicitors, including Editor-in-Chief and Arnav Goswami, have not been named as accused yet and there is no such thing as ‘suspect’ in Criminal law. These observations came into the limelight after Republic TV told the court that Mumbai Police have voluntarily not named Goswami as accused for he won’t be able to move courts for want of locus to quash the case.
