The Kerala HC took up a writ appeal filed before it against the judgment of a single bench judge who allowed the trans woman to enroll in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in accordance with her self-perceived gender identity. The bench of Justice CT Ravikumar and Justice Murali Purushotham took up the hearing of an appeal moved by an intervenor in the original proceedings. In his appeal, he primarily assails the directions by the single judge that Hina Haneefa is allowed to apply for enrolment in the girl’s wing of NCC. The Appellant through his counsel asserted that in his appeal that Haneefa should be admitted only under the category of transgender or third gender. The bench questioned the interest of appellant’s interest in this matter and has also pointed – the NCC was yet to file an appeal in this case. For this the Central Government counsel on behalf of NCC has informed the respected court that NCC would also be filing an appeal.
