The Hon’ble Kerala High Court has inquired Centre about what measures were being taken to ensure international recognition for the Hyderabad-based Bharath Biotech’s ‘covaxin’. The Central Government was also asked to furnish important details on the vaccination certificate and why covaxin lacked universal recognition.
The Hon’ble Divisional Bench comprising of Hon’ble Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Hon’ble Justice Shaji P Chaly was dealing with a PIL filed by the petitioners regarding technical difficulties faced by Non-Resident Indians while travelling abroad in light of the strict travel guidelines.
A set of four reliefs were sought by the petitioners in which it was pleaded to provide the complete name of the covishield vaccine along with the passport number in the vaccination certificate, to give priority to expatriates in administering the second dose of vaccines and to ensure that Covaxin gets international recognition.
Taking note of the plea by the petitioners, the Hon’ble Court asked the Centre to explain “what measures have been taken by the Central Government to ensure universal recognition to Covaxin.”
The Centre was asked to respond to the PIL by the next hearing scheduled for 6 July.
