Retired Director General Jacob Thomas received relief on Monday when the Kerala High Court put down a vigilance FIR filed against him in a suspected corruption case.
Thomas was once considered the blue-eyed boy of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and was given the plum post of director of Vigilance on the day Vijayan took office in May 2016 in his first term as Chief Minister.
But after a while, the relationship between the two turned sour and Jacob was subsequently suspended. A surveillance case against him was recorded by his own department, suggesting that Jacob violated the rules and regulations while purchasing an excavator. In May of last year, he finally retired from non-police activities, until then he was managing director of The Metal Industries Limited, Shoranur.
Thomas then went to court against this FIR, and on Monday he received a discharge. “The truth will always triumph and it will go through the walls of court on Monday. This was a totally wrong case and was proceeded in the interests of some officials,” said Thomas.
Thomas joined the BJP in February and took part in parliamentary elections from the seat of the Irinjalakuda Assembly in April, but finished third.
