The highest number of female judges after 4 new judges appointment to Madras HC

The Madras High Court appointed four judges named Justice Sundaram Srimathy, D Bharatha Chakravarthy, R Vijyayakumar, and Mohammad Shaffiq. After the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Sundaram Srimathy the total tally of women judges was 13 in the Madras High Court, the highest women judges in the court throughout the country.

Advocate General R Shanmugasundaram congratulated and welcome all the newly appointed judges by remembering the long year of practice and values all the newly appointed judges have inculcated.

 “I whole-heartedly welcome and congratulate each one of them for achieving these formidable heights. It is possible to achieve these heights only if one inculcates basic values like integrity, industry, and perseverance. It is quite true that nothing is easy. Concerning legal work, that is true. It is apparent from their Lordships’ elevations that they lived through these tenets in their lives,”

The judges who are appointed as judges were an advocate who is elevated directly from the Bar. Chief justice Sanjib Banerjee administered the oath of office of judges. The chairman of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu pointed to the number of judges of Madras High court. After the retirement of Justice T Krishnavalli, the number of judges had come down to twelve.

The president of the Madras High Court Advocates Association also talked about the physical hearing commencement. A welcome note has also been addressed to the judges as well the staff for helping the court in the time of the pandemic. 

The newly appointed judges also spoke briefly.

After the newly appointed judges, the strength of Madras High Court has risen to 59 against the sanctioned strength of 75 judges.
