Kangana and her sister move SC for transfer of criminal cases from Bombay HC to HP HC

Actress Kangana Ranaut and Rangoli Chandel, her sister, have filed a petition with the Apex Court to move the criminal proceedings against them to Himachal Pradesh from Mumbai. The advocate on record representing Kangana Ranaut is Neeraj Shekhar.

The criminal cases against them are:

1. Javed Akhtar filed a criminal defamation case against the actress with the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate as per sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. The reason given was that the actress, during an interview conducted by Republic TV via Arnab Goswami, made derogatory statements concerning Javed Akhtar.

2. A criminal complaint was filed before the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate by Advocate Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh. Actress Kangana Ranaut alleged to create hostility between Hindus and Muslims through various tweets and insulting the Indian Judiciary.

3. Munawar Ali Sayyed, a casting director, filed a sedition case against the actress, Kangana Ranaut, alleging she undermined the Maharashtra Government while damaging the religious sensibility through her tweets.

Lastly, the petition filed by the actress indicates that their life and property would be at risk if the proceedings continue to take place in Mumbai. As per the actress, there is no intention to disrespect the court. The reason is backed by stating that the actress and her sister faced rivalry from the Maharashtra Government.
