The Hon’ble Apex Court earlier on Friday ordered Punjab State police to grant protection to a couple in live-in-relation who was earlier refused protection by the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Last month, a live-in couple approached the Hon’ble High Court seeking protection from the threat faced by them concerning their relationship status. However, the Hon’ble Court denied the relief of protection to the couple stating that the petitioners were trying to obtain approval of their relationship which is morally and socially not acceptable. The Hon’ble Court relied on its earlier Precedent in denying their plea. The Hon’ble Court in the earlier case refused to grant protection to a live-in couple who were facing threat from their family members noting “if such protection as claimed is granted, the entire social fabric of the society would get disturbed”.
The Hon’ble Supreme Court while allowing the couple’s plea remarked and ordered “Needless to state that since it concerns life and liberty, the Superintendent of Police is required to act expeditiously under the law, including the grant of any protection to the petitioners given the apprehensions/threats, uninfluenced by the observations of the Hon’ble High Court.
The Hon’ble Bench consisting of Hon’ble Justice Navin Sinha and Hon’ble Justice Ajay Rastogi was hearing the Appeal granting liberty to the live-in couple to seek protection from the police authorities
