The formula for oxygen supply in the hospitals devised by the central government-commissioned group proceeds based on a certain requirement of oxygen per minute for ICU and non-ICU beds and accordingly, the allocation is made to the states.
The purpose of the advice here is not to find fault with the expert group or the Union of India. Given the experiences which have been had since the formula was put into motion, the Union of India must rethink and determine if further consideration is required the was held by the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
The Hon’ble two-judge benches of Justice D. Y. Chandrachud and Justice M. R. Shah yield from Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that an expert group has been constituted by the central government comprising two members. The central government-commissioned group has devised a formula for gauging the same. According to the expert group “50% of the beds with no ICU require 10 liters of oxygen per minute and hundred percent of the beds with ICU require 24 liters per minute.
After hearing the basis of the division of oxygen the Hon’ble supreme court advises the centre to revisit the idea.
