Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami filed writ of Habeas Corpus in Bombay High Court.

Arnab Goswami, the Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV was arrested by the Mumbai Police from his house on 4th November 2020. Goswami has filed a petition of Habeas Corpus against his arrest by the Mumbai Police. 

The Senior Journalist also sought an interim stay on the investigation in FIR relating to Anway Naik Suicide Case, accusing him of abetment to suicide. The FIR was registered in the Alibaug Police Station. 

Goswami has filed a writ of Habeas Corpus in the High Court of Bombay claiming that his arrest was illegal and his detention has no valid ground as the case was already closed. 

In his plea, Arnab also seeks quashing of the FIR filed against him in 2018 and quashing the memo on the basis of which he was arrested. The plea also seeks immediate release of Arnab Goswami from the wrongful custody.

Politicians like Kirit Somaiyya, Ram Kadam of BJP, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani, former CM of Maharashtra Devendra Phadnavis, CMs of UP and MP Yogi Adityanath and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, etc. have condemned the arrest of Arnab Goswami and blamed the Maharashtra Govt. of misusing the Government machinery. Several eminent journalists like Sudhir Chaudhary, Editor-in-Chief of  Zee News, Rubika Liyaqat of ABP News, Smita Prakash, Sushant Sinha, Pradeep Bhandari and several others have supported Arnab Goswami.
